The first volume, divided into seven chapters, presents a figure of General Burhardt, his career in the Russian army, in the revived Polish Army and his activities after the retirement. The second volume (four extensive chapters) is an attempt to familiarize with a doctrine of the ‘fortification limes’ developed by the General – one of the most original military and engineering concepts in inter-war Europe.
